Simon Burgess

Mr. Burgess has been involved in commercial real estate in various capacities: as a developer, contractor and investor. He was the co-founder and 50% shareholder of the Oceanico Group of companies, based in Europe and the USA, co-founding it 2000. Under his leadership, the company grew from 2 employees to 650 within in six years.

Mr. Burgess met his goal to lead Oceanico into a leading touristic, developer, builder, owner, and manager of luxury golf and beach resorts in Europe and the USA, ultimately owning and operating 11 unique golf courses, apartments, hotels, condominiums, apart-hotels, and retail. Simultaneous to his Oceanico endeavors, he has been responsible for raising in excess of $1 billion dollars over the last 15 years for real estate, leisure, and hospitality projects in Portugal, UK, and USA, with a keen expertise in design, engineering, construction, and land development.

For over 30 years he has actively worked in all aspects of his development projects, from budget estimates to project delivery. He has also managed and operated over 2000 resort rooms along with 11 restaurants, and two leisure spas. Of special note, Mr. Burgess worked closely with Phillipe Starck to create the Royal Obidos boutique hotel in Northern Portugal. He is qualified as a quantity surveyor with a civil engineering background, and has hands on responsibility of cost control for the Mayfair portfolio of properties.

Having been a principal in the creation and operation of the publicly traded Dutch retail real estate fund, DIM Vastgoed, N V (Euronext Amsterdam Exchange) from 1996 through its sale in April 2010, the formation and management of 18 Dutch partnerships (“Maatschaps”) from 1992 – 2000, as well as a host of other institutional and family office initiatives throughout his + 30 year career, A.J. is well versed and deeply experienced in the complete commercial real estate spectrum (retail, office, hospitality, residential and industrial). A.J. is not only involved in the acquisition and development process, but is charged with spearheading the debt and equity procurement due to his extensive experience within the capital markets, his development, acquisition and financial structuring capabilities, along with asset & property management pedigree.   Having started his commercial real estate career in 1983 in the office and industrial market and later expanding into the retail, hospitality and residential  classes, A.J.’s deep and broad experience is the foundational strength of his and Mayfair’s primary mission…Client advocacy via property stabilization, enhancement and net asset value maximization.

Over the course of the last +15 years, approximately 1.5B sq. ft. of retail space was acquired or built and serviced with resulting extensive knowledge gained in the intricacies of project cost associated with development, including but not limited to, site selection and land cost thresholds, to the site-work, hard cost, tenant interior outfit and soft costs (architectural & engineering, legal, entitlement, debt for both construction and mini-permanent instruments, lease-up, marketing, etc.).  In addition to A.J.’s property management, asset management and development experience, A.J. also acquired his General Contractors license (State of Florida) to compliment his service capabilities.

For nearly 20 years, Mr. Joseph brings a particular expertise in the Capital Markets structuring and closing sophisticated transactions, in raising joint venture equity, debt, mezzanine financing, 2(a)7 paper, and M&A.  He has been an advisor on over $500 million of transactions and has been responsible for and has had direct oversight of investing in over $450M of commercial real estate across the five major asset classes with an emphasis in retail, mixed-use, and multifamily.

Throughout his entrepreneurial career, he has developed a proven ability to build, structure and lead complicated investment structures from concept to plan realization and eventual sale.  Mr. Joseph, most recently, was Managing Director for Evolution Financial Group where he was responsible for sourcing and structuring investment opportunities for the firm's proprietary capital across commercial real estate asset classes’ geographically located in the US.   His resume showcases numerous successful initiatives and positions, including Managing Partner and CEO for companies that include Evolution Real Estate Partners, Hibernian Pacific Holdings, and X1 Capital Partners.
